Founder's Day 2007—Reception and Open House
June 30 is a special day around the Murdock Trust. In addition to marking the advent of summer weather, it is the official “birthday” of the Trust.
Launched June 30, 1975, the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust began as a charitable foundation with approximately $91 million in assets.
The Trust was formed from the estate of M.J. (Jack) Murdock who had died in a plane accident four years earlier, May 16, 1971. In his will Jack had expressed his desire to launch a trust that would nurture and enrich the educational, spiritual, social, and cultural lives of individuals, families, and communities.
In the intervening 32 years, the Trust has done just that in providing grants and programs worth more than $500 million and growing the assets of the Trust to more than $800 million.
This year we celebrated “Founder’s Day” with community leaders from the Vancouver/Portland area, grantees and prospective grantees, and neighbors from the M.J. Murdock Executive Plaza. Some of the pictorial “highlights” are present here!
